Looking back, some events feel like they were bound to happen. There are remarkable narratives, affirmations of faith, and maybe a few signs of what was to come. History, after all, tends to reflect the perspectives of the victors. If you can weave these tales together elegantly and then turn the tables, well, that’s even better.

But really, there’s no magic formula. Teams that found themselves struggling suddenly began to elevate their performance. I found myself improving significantly as well. The rest, well, it’s just a recollection, reminiscent of a nostalgic reunion.

One standout moment from the Joe Torre era was when George Steinbrenner spoke about Game 2 of the 1996 World Series. Torre candidly remarked to Steinbrenner that the Yankees would likely lose that game too.

“I’ll go to Atlanta and take care of business, because Atlanta is my town,” Torre famously declared.
