Suspect in Charlie Kirk Shooting Surrendered Peacefully, According to Sheriff
On September 11, 2025, Utah’s Washington County Sheriff, Nate Brooksby, addressed reporters regarding Tyler Robinson, the man suspected of being involved in the shooting of Charlie Kirk. He described the approach taken during Robinson’s surrender as “delicate” and “soft” to ensure a peaceful outcome.
Reports indicate that Robinson’s parents communicated with him prior to his surrender, as he had been heading to a secluded area in Washington County.
Sheriff Brooksby shared that he received a call from a retired lieutenant connected to Robinson’s family, who suggested that Robinson wanted to turn himself in. The lieutenant appeared quite anxious, stating, “I know who Charlie Kirk’s shooter is. He’s currently in Washington County, and we’re trying to bring him in voluntarily.”
Brooksby noted that he encouraged Robinson to surrender himself, agreeing to handle the situation with care so that Robinson would feel at ease when he came to the sheriff’s office. This approach ultimately led to a smooth surrender.
Reflecting on the situation, Brooksby mentioned that Robinson understood the gravity of his circumstances, acknowledging the inevitability of facing law enforcement amidst the ongoing publicity surrounding the incident.
Robinson has been charged with aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, two counts of obstruction of justice, and witness tampering. Additionally, he faces charges related to committing a violent crime in the presence of a child.
The matter is serious enough that the death penalty is being sought in this case.
