The 9-9-9 challenge has really caught on in the baseball community, so it seems like just a matter of time until other sports figured out their own food challenges for fans. The Philadelphia Flyers have stepped up with something exciting.

Introducing the Philadelphia Hat Trick Challenge.

This unique challenge debuted during the Flyers’ first home playoff game in eight years and offers fans the chance to order three Philadelphia cheesesteaks and three fries throughout the game’s three periods.

While the 9-9-9 challenge involves fans consuming nine hot dogs and nine beers during nine innings, this new initiative places a local twist on things. Plus, if fans want to enjoy some blue drinks during the game, I doubt they’ll be stopped.

I admit, there’s a part of me—probably the more primal side—that thinks I could tackle the 9-9-9 challenge at a decent pace. But honestly, trying to eat three cheesesteaks and three fries over a two-and-a-half-hour hockey game? That seems a bit daunting.

But who knows? I’d at least be willing to give it a shot.

The cherry on top? The whole deal costs $45. I mean, can you even find three sandwiches and fries anywhere else for that price?

I’m curious about how strictly they enforce the challenge. If you’re going with family or friends, maybe you could collaborate to take on this challenge together.

After this introduction, will we see other teams follow suit? I came across Chicago offering a trio of Italian beef sandwiches—sounds like a local favorite. Perhaps the Lightning will go bold and serve three Cuban sandwiches for their fans.

In the end, I appreciate where this whole trend is headed; it’s intriguing how competitive eating can bring fans even closer to their love for the game.
