Apple to Increase Product Prices Due to Memory Chip Costs

In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced plans to raise product prices, attributing this decision to the rising costs of memory chips. “Unfortunately, price increases are inevitable,” Cook stated. He emphasized that Apple is making efforts to minimize the impact of these cost hikes on customers, but the situation has become unsustainable.

Cook noted that consumer demand for devices remains high while supplies are low, leading to significant price increases from memory manufacturers. “Memory prices and supply definitely need to get back to a reasonable level for consumer products,” he added, describing this as a crucial matter.

While specific details regarding the anticipated price increases have not been disclosed, the Wall Street Journal predicted such hikes are now unavoidable. This comes as the country faces a memory chip shortage, particularly affecting smartphones, personal computers, and other technologies. According to reports, this shortage could persist until late 2026.

In addition to these challenges, recent data showed an increase of 14.5% in software and computer accessory prices, which is the highest recorded rise. Furthermore, prices for electronic components surged by 27% in May compared to the previous year.

Amid these developments, Intel’s stocks experienced a 7% increase following news of a partnership with Apple to design and manufacture chips in the U.S.
