Wrestling Icon Hulk Hogan Passes Away at 71
Wrestling legend Hulk Hogan died on Thursday at the age of 71, prompting emotional tributes from friends and fans, including Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
Johnson took to social media to share a heartfelt memory of Hogan, recalling a moment from 1984 when he was a child. He reminisced about catching the “Hulxter” headband thrown into the crowd during a match against Paul Orndorf at Madison Square Garden. “I was a lucky kid,” he said, reflecting on how special that moment was for him.
“After the match, you told me that was your last headband, and that it couldn’t be replicated. I was just shocked and happy,” Johnson recounted, adding that Hogan considered their encounter an important one.
Johnson also reflected on their iconic match at WrestleMania X8, a showdown that he believes defined wrestling history. The excitement and energy from the crowd during that moment were unmatched, he expressed, saying it was electrifying to feel the audience resonate with the atmosphere. Johnson noted, “Tango takes two, but that historic crowd response was for you,” emphasizing Hogan’s significant impact on wrestling.
With deep gratitude, Johnson shared his sentiments, saying, “From the deepest part of my bones and on behalf of this wild, crazy wrestling world we love, thank you, brother.”
WWE honored Hogan during “SmackDown!” on Friday night with a 10-bell salute. Current superstars and former rivals gathered on stage, and the audience showed support through cheers and chants of “Hogan! Hogan!” after a tribute video aired highlighting Hogan’s wrestling and entertainment career.
