Actor Marty York is best known for his role as Alan “Yeah Yeah” McLennan in the classic youth sports comedy The Sandlot. However, the child star has endured several tragedies, including the murder of his mother.
Yorke was 12 years old when “The Sandlot” was released in theaters in 1993. As a child actress, Yorke appeared on television’s “Saved by the Bell,” “Boy Meets World,” and “Wings.”
However, York left Hollywood after nearly dying in a fiery car accident. He collided head-on with another car, shattering his leg.
Mr York said he “died” at the scene of the car crash and needed to be resuscitated after losing so much blood.
Doctors told Marty’s mother that there was a good chance he would never walk again. York underwent six months of treatment to learn how to walk again.
While in rehab, he said he realized he was “burnt out” on being a Hollywood actor and quit the industry at the age of 17.
Tragedy struck again in 2017 when York’s sister died of a drug overdose.
Marty’s mother took her daughter’s death hard, but wanted to refocus her suffering into something more positive. There, Deanna Esmael, 64, trained to become her sheriff’s deputy.
York’s mother became a deputy with the Del North County Sheriff’s Department.
However, York suffered further life-changing tragedy in 2023 when his mother was murdered.
In October 2023, Esmael’s body was found At home in Crescent City, California.
Authorities immediately investigated her boyfriend as a murder suspect. An arrest warrant was issued and a nationwide manhunt began to arrest 54-year-old Edward Patrick Davis.
Yorke was shocked by her mother’s murder and took to Instagram to help find Esmael’s killer.
“This is the hardest post I’ve ever had to write, but last night I learned from the sheriff’s office that my mother was murdered by the man she was dating,” York wrote. “Right now, my emotions are mixed between anger, revenge, and tears. A nationwide manhunt is underway. If you see this man, please contact authorities immediately!”
The day after Esmael was killed, law enforcement arrested Davis in Curry County, Oregon.
York, 43, was asked in a recent interview how he was coping with his mother’s murder.
“I’m trying to do my best as best I can,” York said. access hollywood last week. “Everything. Trying to get back into this industry. Trying to deal with my mother’s death and how it happened. It’s been tough.”
Yorke explained that she suppressed her anger over her mother’s murder by remembering how much of an inspiration she was.
“If it wasn’t for my mom, I wouldn’t be in the position I’m in now,” he explained.
Marty described his mother as “a very inspirational person.”
York said she will honor her mother’s legacy by “never giving up.”
“She was someone who never gave up,” he said. ”[She] Never let anyone tell you not to, whether it’s because of your age, because of your height, or for any reason. ”
“I really hope people find inspiration,” he continued. “I hope that when people overcome some obstacle and feel like giving up, they remember my story and think, ‘Marty didn’t give up even when his sister died.'”; Even after his mother died, he did not give up. he continued. He found the strength within himself to do it. ”
Marty concluded, “So I hope people find that in themselves and never give up.”
