Upcoming Women’s College Basketball Events
While there are still about four months until women’s college basketball kicks off, we’re starting to see schedules emerge, especially for the multi-team events that happen around Thanksgiving—a time we often refer to as “Feast Week.”
Among the most notable tournaments in November is the Player ERA Women’s Championships set for November 26th and 27th in Las Vegas, Nevada. This tournament features three teams that reached the Final Four last season, along with another Duke team that narrowly lost to the Elite Eight Gamecocks.
On November 26th, UCLA will go head-to-head with Texas at 2 PM, followed by a rematch from last year’s Elite Eight, as Duke faces South Carolina at 4:30 PM.
Duke has struggled against South Carolina, losing six consecutive matches since 2017. However, during their encounter last year in Birmingham, Alabama, the Blue Devils managed to limit the Gamecocks to their lowest score of the season.
The next day, November 27th, the winners of the opening games will meet at 8 PM ET, while the teams that lose will play for third place at 10:30 PM ET. Should Texas and South Carolina both make it to the final, it would be an unusual non-conference matchup between two SEC teams.
Last season, the Longhorns and Gamecocks played each other four times—twice in the regular season, once in the SEC title game, and once in the Final Four. South Carolina ended up with a 3-1 record against Texas, with the Longhorns’ sole victory occurring during the regular season in Austin. South Carolina’s coach, Dawn Staley, has a strong record of 16 wins to 4 losses against Texas’s coach, Vic Schafer.
For UCLA, this event marks one of at least two scheduled trips to Las Vegas. The Bruins will also participate in another multi-team event in Sin City roughly ten days before the Player ERA Championship, where they will face North Carolina and USF at a venue sponsored by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.
Details about the game’s location and television broadcasting will be revealed later. It’s worth mentioning that last season’s Player ERA tournament games were available on TNT, TBS, TRUTV, and streamed on HBO Max.
