A new kind of ROV
HERO-BLUE stands for “Biomimetic Multilocomotion-Based Underwater Exploration Hazardous and Extreme Environment Robot.” The experimental device, developed by Taesik Kim and his team at South Korea’s Pohang University of Science and Technology, takes inspiration from the natural world. Traditional ROVs rely on electric thrusters to navigate at depth. However, these thrusters have limitations and can become clogged with debris or resist strong currents. HERO-BLUE is a robot that not only turns heads but revolutionizes underwater missions.
