‘The Shards’: Ryan Murphy’s series based on the Bret Easton Ellis novel will feature Richard Gere’s son alongside Cindy Crawford’s daughter

Ryan Murphy’s New Adaptation Featuring Famous Offspring

Ryan Murphy’s latest project, an adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’s novel Debris, is gearing up to feature the children of two Hollywood icons: Richard Gere and Cindy Crawford.

As reported by Hollywood Reporter, this project has finally moved past its long development phase. It reportedly began back in May with Kaia Gerber, Crawford’s daughter, on board as a lead. Recently, actor Iggy Rigney from Midnight Club joined her, and they will be joined by newcomer Homer Guerre, who closely resembles his father. Graham Campbell is also part of the cast.

While all of this sounds exciting, there might be some underlying tension on set, given that Gerber and Homer’s parents were married from 1991 to 1995. Crawford and Gere met casually at a barbecue in 1988 and eloped in Las Vegas in 1991, with a rather unconventional aluminum foil ring.

There might have been some complications due to their 17-year age difference, as Crawford noted in a 2016 interview that “part of the problem” was her youth and Gere’s established status.

Now, their children are stepping into the spotlight to showcase their talents in this new series.

Gerber is already making a name for herself in Hollywood with roles in Bottom, Palm Royale, and Saturday Night. She even appeared as herself in recent episodes of Hack.

For Gere’s son, however, Debris will mark his acting debut. His only credit on IMDB comes from a short film in 2022 called August.

This adaptation draws inspiration from Ellis’s semi-autobiographical experiences at Sherman Oaks’ Buckley School during the 1980s. Rigney plays Robert Mallory, the character who will see his life altered when he encounters new influences. Campbell plays Brett’s close friend, Tom Wright.

With the completion of Feud: Capote vs. Swan and Monster: The Story of Lyle and Eric Menendez, Murphy has taken control of this project after it lingered in development with HBO Max since January 2024.

While the series won’t directly involve Ellis, both he and Murphy will serve as executive producers.
