Netflix’s New Series Takes Viewers by Storm
Netflix’s latest show, Hunting Wife, has quickly become a binge-watch favorite among viewers.
**Spoiler alert Hunting Wife Season 1 **
It’s not surprising that so many people are hooked on this series; it’s filled with intrigue, sensuality, and hidden secrets.
The storyline contrasts characters like Margo and Jedbanks (played by Dermot Mulroney), who represent conservative values, with the more liberal Sophie and Graham (Evan Jonikitt). However, the real heart of the show lies in peeling back the layers of their facades. If you doubt the show’s depth, just look at characters like Callie (Jaime Ray Newman) and Sheriff Jonny (Branton Box).
With an abundance of steamy scenes and jaw-dropping moments, it seems inevitable that this show would spark lively discussions on social media. Sure, it may not have attracted quite as many viewers as Bridgerton did in its first season, but let’s face it: the repeated palace scenery got a bit old, didn’t it? Meanwhile, Hunting Wife seems to have made its way into TikTok conversations for more discerning reasons. What fans may have found unexpected is the various sexual themes introduced in the series, including pegging. Yes, it’s definitely pushing boundaries.
In episode 7, titled “The Shooting Star,” Sheriff Jonny is both amused and bewildered when his wife, Curry, confidently declares she’s “a big fucking boss.” For those unfamiliar with pegging, it’s when a woman uses a strap-on dildo for anal penetration. This memorable scene adds a layer of complexity, especially since Curry’s relationship with Margo becomes a subplot—further complicated by Sophie’s suspicions regarding Abby (Madison Wolf).
Viewers on TikTok were understandably taken aback by that pivotal scene in episode 7. Many expressed their shock at the show’s willingness to explore such themes, leading to a deeper discussion about public personas and the notion of the “perfect couple” or traditional family values. It’s not so much about kink-shaming; rather, it’s a commentary on the superficiality of those ideals, particularly among couples claiming to uphold conservative Christian morals.
If you’re skeptical, consider that just a few episodes earlier, Curry and Jonny had another eyebrow-raising moment. In episode 4, “Cheat Day,” Curry walks into the office, not for a romantic encounter, but to inject him with something she calls “muscle juice.” While it’s not explicitly defined, it suggests something like anabolic steroids or testosterone, hinting that it’s essential for him to become “the next Joe Arpaio.”
Both the pegging scene and the steroid shot shine a light on Johnny’s anxiety around masculinity and his role. It’s a point that, while graphically portrayed, left many viewers—and perhaps the internet—stunned for a moment. The show certainly knows how to challenge perceptions.
Overall, the series is packed with unexpected moments and raunchy scenes. The very first episode, “A Strange and Unfamiliar Place,” has Sophie seeing a fully nude Margo alongside her 18-year-old son (Katy Lowes) and friend Riverland Clint (Jason Davis). That’s definitely a bold move for a premiere. If that’s what Season 1 offered, I can only imagine the surprises awaiting us in Season 2.
Hunting Wife Season 1 is now available on Netflix.
