During its 35-year run, the beloved animated comedy earned quite the reputation as a show that predicted the future, alluding to everything from Donald Trump becoming president to a failed real-life attempt to recreate Willy Wonka’s chocolate universe and even Diddy’s recent downfall.
The discovery of a three-eyed fish in Greenland has avid fans of the show revisiting the Season 2 episode “Two Cars in the Garage, Three Eyes on the Fish” in awe. The Mirror report.
Airing in the fall of 1990, the episode sees amoral nuclear power plant owner Mr. Burns come to a moment of reflection as he faces the reality that his polluting ventures have wreaked havoc on the environment, creating abominations like the three-eyed fish.
A lively online discussion has begun after someone shared a photo of the real-world anomaly on Reddit.
The post was captioned, “Three-eyed cod caught off the coast of Greenland.”
“It took a few decades, but The Simpsons has pulled it off again,” one Reddit user replied.

“Amazing. Looks like Blinky from The Simpsons,” said another.
“Springfield was in Greenland!” a third person said, alluding to a joke that the location of Springfield, the setting of The Simpsons, has never been revealed.
“Another example of The Simpsons doing it first,” someone said.
It seems that many people were interested in how actual fish came to be.
“But seriously, is there a remote possibility that three-eyed fish could evolve if eyes were functional? Or would eyes be too energy-intensive?” one scientist asked.
The poster, who claimed to be an expert, explained: “The most likely scenario is that one of three things [eyes] It’s not functioning properly. You can see that the left eye of the fish has exophthalmos, so I think it’s probably not functioning. It’s also possible that two of the three are not functioning. I’ve seen a lot of deformed fish, and in most cases it’s the ‘extra eye’ that’s not functioning.”
