We are more than a week into June and into the slow phase of the NFL offseason.
The minicamp stuff is struggling to keep the overall fire burning, and in truth, there are still about six more weeks until training camp officially heats up and things return to normal. In the meantime, the NBA Finals (shoutout Celtics), the Stanley Cup Final (cheering on the Panthers), baseball season (cheering on my favorite team) and bear (Shout out to Carmy) will have to keep us entertained.
But added to that charcuterie board of choices is something new that we (Michael Peterson and RJ Ochoa) have prepared for you. Every week, we’ll give you our thoughts, opinions, and deepest truths about the current state of the NFL. If you haven’t guessed, this is an exercise we’ll be participating in during the regular season as well.
this is Skinny Post. let’s start.
Are the new Minnesota Vikings uniforms actually that great?
Michael:
Yes, the Vikings’ new all-white uniforms are awesome. To be honest, there’s probably no one who’s a bigger fan of all-white uniforms than I am. All-white uniforms are the epitome of “crisp” and “clean.”
As Chargers As a fan, I always think of the AFL 50th Anniversary uniforms the team wore in the mid-2000s. They were very, very pretty uniforms with the powder blue numbers on the back. They are my favorite uniforms ever, and this new “Winter Warrior” uniform for the Vikings has a similar vibe. Also, when every position group on the team looks great in their uniforms, including the offensive linemen, you know the designers did a great job.
These uniforms are great and I would give them a 9 out of 10, but they are not the Chargers AFL 50th Anniversary set.
RJ:
Uniforms are a key factor in determining whether a football team is good overall – it’s a scientific fact.
That being said, I think the Vikings have a good chance of winning in 2024, but these uniforms are a bit of a disappointment to me. I know that sounds silly, but… Too White. Why can’t it be a bit more purple? Maybe a few more lines? Or maybe where there is one line, make it thicker?
Obviously, the premise here is kind of a whiteout, which is cool. Get the fans involved. Get everyone wearing white. But Minnesota’s signature color is purple, so the percentage of purple is more like 15-20% in my opinion, whereas here it’s more like 5%.
What about purple accessories? Purple arm sleeves, wristbands, cleats. Just change it up a little and you’ll be totally into it.
Players you won’t hear much about this offseason
Michael:
One player I expected to see more of since the draft is new University of Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels. He was the second quarterback drafted this year behind Chicago’s Caleb Williams and won the Heisman Trophy last season, but I haven’t seen any content about Daniels on the team’s official social media platforms or any other football-related pages.
I’ve seen plenty of content from Williams, JJ McCarthy and Drake May, and while I may have seen Daniels appear courtside at a basketball game and even been photographed last month, I don’t think I’ve seen a single ball or clip of him throwing at the team’s rookie minicamp or OTAs.
That seems odd to me considering he was selected in the recent draft as the franchise quarterback of the future.
RJ:
It’s certainly odd that Jayden Daniels has been so low-key so far. To be honest, I think there’s room for debate about the Commanders as a whole. They’ve contributed so much to the organization as a whole, but they’ve been pretty quiet around them.
My answer is Kyler Murray. Dallas Cowboys I know I’m biased, but I feel like I’ve heard more about Daniel Jones, who was in the same draft class as Murray. I was much slower than others to write off Kyler, and I feel like there’s a lot of positive energy with the Cardinals right now and people are trying to give that to everyone else involved with the organization. They are Was this the team we’d linked Caleb Williams to so many times?

I’m not expecting Murray to have an MVP season, but I can easily imagine the Cardinals winning 9-10 games and Murray benefiting from rookie Marvin Harrison Jr. in addition to his usual contributions in the run game. Will we see a Philip Rivers-like bloom at this stage in his career? I think so.
The best non-sports things to read or watch between now and the end of July
Michael:
If there’s one thing I recommend you see as soon as possible, it’s the movie that just came out on Netflix, Godzilla Minus One. Whether you like giant monsters or not, it’s one of the best movies you’ll see this year.
Despite having one of the lowest budgets of any major blockbuster ($10-12 million), it won an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects and grossed over $116 million, making it the lowest-budget film ever to win that award.
This movie was released in Japan and was initially only available there, but is now available in the US, so go and see it as soon as possible. It’s very moving and very well made. You won’t regret it.
RJ:
Sorry I’m very late crown And I want everyone to know that this is one of the greatest shows of all time. I’m still in the middle of it, but I’m ready to make that declaration.
Similarly, I am reading some things that I never had time to read before and am now The HobbitIt’s nearly 100 years old, but if you haven’t read it yet, consider it yours with my approval.
Other than that, I suggest the reading Skinny Post It’s a must have at this time of year (and every year).
Move forward.
