Travis Hunter’s initial NFL purchase isn’t what most people would anticipate.
The Heisman Trophy winner’s first professional contract, signed after being picked second in the recent NFL Draft, is worth over $40 million.
Surprisingly, his first purchase as a graduate of the University of Colorado wasn’t some extravagant gemstone or a high-end vehicle, or even a gift for his family, which might be what you’d expect.
What Hunter bought right after being selected was a pair of Jaguar pajamas. He shared this detail recently, reflecting a sense of humor about the situation.
He even wore pants under his graduation gown when he accepted his degree from Colorado on Thursday.
“It was a blessing to walk across the stage with my family, but honestly, I was already thinking about getting back to work and starting football,” Hunter recounted after attending the Jaguars’ rookie minicamp. “Those pajamas were the first thing I ordered on Amazon right after I got drafted that night,” he said.
Hunter is projected to be a standout from this draft class, having excelled as both a receiver and defensive back during his two seasons with the Buffaloes, following his transfer from Jackson State.
He has already been participating in training drills with the Jaguars and, according to reports, will focus on defense later this week.
Hunter has expressed a strong desire to contribute both offensively and defensively in the NFL, and the Jaguars plan to utilize his skills in both capacities.
“This is definitely real,” Hunter, who spent his childhood in Florida before moving to Georgia in high school, commented. “We came out here and the view is beautiful, although it’s hot. I remember playing around here as a kid. I really love it.”
