“The Squad,” made up of Congress’ most progressive members, condemned the attempted assassination of former President Trump on Saturday, though some were hesitant to mention him specifically.
The group’s leader, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York), issued the strongest statement yet condemning the violence and supporting President Trump’s restoration.
“Political violence, including the horrific events we witnessed in Pennsylvania, cannot be tolerated. It is completely unacceptable and must be condemned in the strongest terms. My heart goes out to all the victims and I wish the former president a speedy recovery,” AOC said.
“My condolences go out to the family of those killed at Trump’s rallies. We must all be exhausted by the constant senseless violence in our society. Political violence is abhorrent and must end. I pray for the former president’s full recovery. This is a terrifying time for our democracy,” said Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.).

Other members of the “Squad,” including Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Rep. Summer Lee (D-Pennsylvania), condemned the violence without specifically mentioning former President Donald Trump.

All members of the Squad have previously said that Trump would pose a threat to democracy and the US Constitution if elected.
Democratic lawmakers, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), strongly condemned the violence and sent their best wishes to former President Donald Trump. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) also condemned the violence.
Political violence is totally unacceptable.
We pray for a speedy recovery for Donald Trump and anyone else who may have been injured.

Violence has no place in our democracy, and my thoughts are with President Trump and all those affected by today’s rally.
