Awakening State?
New York, famously known as the city that never sleeps, has found itself in an intriguing position. A recent study by the AI image generator Caron shows that the Empire State is the second-highest in the U.S. for adult content consumption, trailing only California.
Texas comes in third on this list, which supports the stereotype that everything is bigger in the Lone Star State, including its appetite for X-rated material.
A representative from Karon pointed out, “While porn consumption may seem private, search data shows how adult content varies nationwide.”
The Karon study utilized Google Keyword Planner data to analyze local search histories, categorizing them into four main areas: porn-related searches, specific genres, and curiosity-driven inquiries about adult content.
Additionally, they estimated how much time residents in each state spend on porn, based on PornHub’s 2024 U.S. Insights Report. These metrics were combined to develop what’s called a “porn engagement score,” ranking the states and identifying the most popular porn categories.
According to a Karon spokesperson, “By examining online search percentages, interest in specific genres, curiosity-driven terminology, and average viewing time, we gain insight into how people engage with sexual content.” They noted that this data isn’t about right or wrong; it’s more about capturing digital habits and cultural tendencies—the extent to which curiosity is openly expressed or kept behind closed doors.
Interestingly, there’s a noticeable uptick in searches for animated porn in certain areas, hinting at a rising interest in this fantasy-oriented format.
California leads the pack, with an astonishing 137,000 searches per 100,000 residents related to porn, far surpassing the national average. The state is also second in curiosity around adult content and ranks seventh in terms of average viewing time, clocking in at just over 10 minutes. The most sought-after genre here? Animated porn.
New York holds the second spot nationally for online porn consumption, with 149,000 searches per 100,000 people, where lesbian porn is the most favored category.
Texas and Georgia fill the third and fourth slots, respectively, while Washington rounds out the top five, recording around 150,000 searches per 100,000 residents.

On the flip side, Idaho stands out for its low engagement levels across porn categories, suggesting a lack of interest in adult content overall. Despite having the lowest online searches, with only 77,000 per 100,000 residents, it seems that Idahoans still have a preference for lesbian porn, though their overall activity in this area is minimal.
