Demi Moore, 61, felt like she didn't belong in Hollywood after turning 40

“The same thing happened with the Vanity Fair cover. It wasn't because I loved the cover, it was because I was trying to free myself from the slavery I'd been imprisoning myself in,” the Ghost star added.

The Emmy nominee explained that she was attracted to the bold role because it challenged gender stereotypes.

“The other truth is that provocative things — not in a sexual sense, but things that provoke meaningful thought — have always fascinated me,” Moore said.

She continues, “Take Strip Tease for example. There was an interesting critique of women working as dancers, and the idea was that women were trying to take care of their children in any way they could. In G.I. Jane, if a woman had enough skill and the desire to raise children, [serve]why wouldn't we want her there?'

“I didn't understand why that door was closed. A lot of my films have similar themes. 'Indecent Proposal' and 'Disclosure' are similar in a way. We never saw women as aggressors, as abusers.”
