The surprising facts surrounding another deadly truck accident involving undocumented migrants

Truck Crash in California Claims Three Lives

A recent truck accident in California resulted in three fatalities and left several others injured. The incident occurred on Tuesday and involved a commercial truck driven by an undocumented immigrant.

The driver has been identified as Jashanpreet Singh, a 21-year-old from India, who is reportedly in the U.S. illegally. Following the crash, Singh was arrested by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and is currently being held without bail at the West Valley Detention Center in San Bernardino.

Authorities are investigating whether Singh possesses a valid commercial driver’s license to operate the semi-truck. Reports indicate that he was driving at a high speed and might have been under the influence of drugs when the accident happened on Ontario’s 10 Freeway. All individuals who lost their lives were adults, according to the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office.

Rodrigo Jimenez from the CHP commented on the situation, noting the severity of the crash, which involved multiple commercial vehicles. “This is a complex investigation that has been taken over by our multi-disciplinary accident investigation team,” he explained. Jimenez emphasized that this could have been a preventable tragedy if all drivers had exercised caution.

Singh faces charges that include driving under the influence of drugs, causing bodily injury, and gross negligence resulting in death while intoxicated. Footage from a drive recorder shows the truck striking several vehicles without any apparent attempt to brake.

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency has placed an arrest detainer on Singh, highlighting that he entered the U.S. after crossing the border in 2022. Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary of State, attributed the incident to what she termed a “reckless open border policy,” which has allowed illegal immigrants to operate large vehicles on American roads.

Furthermore, recent reports suggest a rising number of accidents involving undocumented drivers behind the wheel of commercial trucks. There was also mention of the Department of Transportation withholding $40 million from California due to non-compliance with English proficiency requirements for commercial drivers.

DOT Secretary Sean Duffy criticized the situation, labeling it as “outrageous,” while urging Governor Gavin Newsom to enforce new measures to improve road safety.
