Ten years ago, the nation watched as protests flared across St. Louis over the shooting death of unarmed 18-year-old Michael Brown Jr. The unrest helped bring the Black Lives Matter movement to greater national attention than ever before.
St. Louis County prosecutors did not charge Officer Darren Wilson, who they say shot Brown because Brown reached for his gun. In its murder investigation, the Department of Justice (DOJ) determined there was no evidence prosecutors could rely on to “disprove” a belief that Wilson feared for his safety.
Ten years later, Brown’s family, advocates and lawmakers say justice has still not been served.
