The Texans just made the wrong kind of NFL Playoffs history

of kansas city chiefs Visions of becoming the NFL's first three-peat Super Bowl champion are still dancing in my head as we head into the AFC Championship Game. Kansas City survived Saturday afternoon's matchup. houston texanswon with a final score of 23-14.

For the Texan, the flight home will be filled with “what if” thoughts. Kicker Kaimi Fairbairn missed one field goal, had another blocked and missed the extra point in the loss. Houston also outscored the Chiefs 336-212, had 18 first downs to Kansas City's 12, won possession battles from 33:26 to 26:34, and never turned the football over.

Accomplishing something like that in an NFL playoff game usually results in a win. But that's not the case with today's Texans.

In fact, Houston became the first team in NFL playoff history to outscore an opponent by more than 100 yards and still lose the game without turning the football over. According to Benjamin Solak, ESPNthe only team to do that and lose in the playoffs was the Texans.

The remaining 49 teams outscored their opponents by at least 100 yards and every team that did not turn the football over won a playoff game.

It will also make the flight home difficult for the Texans.
