The three members of Congress who show the least patriotism

As July 4th celebrations ramp up across the U.S., not everyone in Congress is feeling festive. Here are three members who appear less than enthusiastic about the holiday.

3. Jasmine Crockett

Texas Democrat Jasmine Crockett has had notable moments in her political journey. Like many in her party, she has been critical of the Trump administration, often going as far as addressing issues in foreign nations more than those closer to home.

Crockett once remarked, “I can almost go through the whole thing and tell them they’re broken and relying on a lot of welfare from the government.”

In a February chat on “The Breakfast Club,” she expressed support for Canada and Mexico, indicating they were fighting against a “crazy administration from Mar-a-Lago.” She mentioned, “It’s really wild that I’m rooting for Canada and factoring in Mexico, but they’re calling out the truth.”

Notably, she referred to Republican strongholds as “deplorable,” implying they cling to outdated ideologies, and claimed, “There’s a lot of dependence on the ‘Big Blue State,’ and it feels broken.”

She specifically discussed Alabama and Louisiana, reiterating that these states often rely heavily on government assistance.

2. Rashida Tlaib

Michigan’s Rep. Rashida Tlaib has long been vocal about her views on American sovereignty. Her comments frequently critique the nation’s immigration policies.

She has expressed that ICE operates to intimidate individuals who have entered the country illegally, and rather than celebrating July 4th, she has pointed out that America is “a broken system rooted in racism that allows people to be hurt and killed.”

Tlaib is recognized for her advocacy for Palestine, often criticizing Israeli policies, which complicates her position as a representative of an ally nation.

When addressing Trump, she typically uses sharp rhetoric, contributing to her controversial reputation.

1. Ilhan Omar

Rep. Ilhan Omar from Minnesota has garnered attention for her anti-American sentiments. A significant incident occurred in 2019 when she downplayed the 9/11 terrorist attacks at a fundraising event, saying, “We are a country built on the backs of stolen land and slaves.”

She stated her concerns about civil liberties being eroded post-9/11, which drew backlash from many quarters. In a follow-up interview, she mentioned the importance of remembering what happened that day while also acknowledging her own experiences as a Muslim American.

Omar has often criticized the U.S. while seeming to show more support for her home country of Somalia, celebrating its independence while casting a shadow over America’s founding principles. She has called the U.S. “one of the worst countries,” which adds layers to her public persona and political narrative.

In a previous celebration of Somali independence, she posted a heartfelt tribute, yet her messages regarding American independence tend to highlight the nation’s historical injustices.
