The tie between the Commanders and Giants was complete chaos.

Disappointing Outcome in NFL Game

This past Sunday, the NFL game between the Washington Commanders and the New York Giants ended in a rather unexpected way. It marked the first tie of the 2026 season, with both teams finishing the game at 27-27 after overtime.

Getting to that conclusion, however, was quite the ride.

On a wet day at Northwest Stadium, the Commanders led 27-13 early in the fourth quarter, thanks to a 26-yard touchdown scramble by Jayden Daniels, who was back as Washington’s starting quarterback. This was his second touchdown run of the match; he had previously scored on a 38-yard run earlier on.

But then it all shifted. Jameis Winston threw a touchdown pass to Isaiah Likely minutes later, and with less than two minutes left in the game, he threw yet another touchdown, this time to Malik Nabers, bringing the score to a tie at 27-27.

After Washington was forced to punt, the game went into overtime.

And that’s when things got really chaotic.

The Giants had an opportunity to take the lead right away in overtime, but their drive stalled near the red zone. Rookie kicker Dominic Zvada attempted a 46-yard field goal, but he missed—marking his third miss of the day.

This gave Washington a chance to capitalize, but despite some effort, they ended up punting again. A notable moment was when Dyami Brown recovered his own fumble, allowing the drive to continue briefly. Yet, the Giants had another opportunity to win.

That is until running back Cam Skattebo turned the momentum back toward the Commanders by fumbling the ball, giving Washington yet another shot.

With just over a minute left, Daniels scrambled and moved Washington into New York territory. He then connected with Treylon Burks, inching closer to field goal range for kicker Drew Stevens, who had been successful on his earlier kicks.

However, a critical misstep occurred. After a two-yard gain on a running play, the Commanders needed to spike the ball to stop the clock. Strangely, Daniels didn’t execute it in time, and the game ended without a winner.

Looking back, it baffles many how Washington handled the final moments so poorly. They had over 50 seconds remaining before the final snap, ample time to run another play and then spike the ball. Instead, they let precious seconds tick away before Daniels attempted a frantic last-second maneuver, preventing any chance for a field goal.

In that moment, one can easily understand Dan Quinn’s reaction as time expired, perhaps reflecting the sentiment of many disappointed Commanders fans.

Update: In the aftermath, Quinn shared his thoughts on the game.
