Tommy Fleetwood felt a surge of family support during his recent victory at the PGA Tour Championship last month.
While speaking to the press on Wednesday before the BMW PGA Championship, he shared that his family was somewhat spread out during the Atlanta victory weekend. Notably, his son-in-law is recovering from a major surgery and his wife, Claire, is assisting him through that.
“Our middle boy, MO [Murray] had spinal surgery about a month ago,” Fleetwood remarked. “Actually, they were in the hospital the week I was in Memphis, and he was still in recovery. He spent three and a half weeks there, so they couldn’t make it. Oscar joined me though.”
At 34, Fleetwood faced a mix of emotions as he secured his first tour win, triumphing over Americans Patrick Cantlay and Russell Henley by three strokes. It marked a personal milestone for him since he’d joined the tour back in 2018.
His victory came at Eastlake Golf Club, where he proudly lifted the FedEx Cup Trophy, a sight to behold for everyone present. Reports indicated that Claire, 57, was watching the tournament from home, supporting him from afar.
Claire has two sons from a previous relationship, Oscar and Murray, and shares another son, Franklin, with Fleetwood. Excitingly, Fleetwood mentioned this week that Murray plans to attend the BMW PGA Championship.
This DP World Tour event kicks off at the Wentworth Club in the UK on Thursday and will run until Sunday.
Looking ahead, Fleetwood is set to represent Team Europe in the Ryder Cup later this month, marking his return after a two-year absence following Team Europe’s victory in Italy in 2023.
