As the mainstream media, in cahoots with Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign, desperately tries to shove the candidate’s record of far-left radical progressive positions down the memory hole, it’s important to highlight exactly where the former California Attorney General truly stands on public safety and policing. The Harris campaign’s simplified bumper sticker slogan defines race as a “prosecutor versus felons” conflict, despite the fact that many Americans feel the prosecution of former President Donald Trump was politically motivated. Parallel to this destruction of norms is an ongoing effort to gaslight and reframe Harris as an advocate of “law and order.”
But even a cursory review of her record easily disproves that restructuring attempt. We certainly remember her debate with former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard in the 2020 Democratic primary, when Gabbard’s sweeping criticism of Harris’ record as attorney general effectively knocked her out of the race before the Iowa caucuses, without receiving a single vote.
But with President Joe Biden falling victim to party infighting and being ousted from the top of the shortlist, Ms Harris has been crowned the Democratic Party’s next heroine.

But let’s not forget some of the comments and actions that seem to contradict her recent image change. Vice President Harris has a very complicated relationship with police. Here are six extremely troubling examples that underscore her connection to the ongoing “war on police.”

- Harris persisted in spreading the lie (and as recently as 2019) that an African-American teenager was killed by a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri in 2014. She continued to spread this ugly trope years after the Obama Administration’s Department of Justice concluded an investigation led by then-Attorney General Eric Holder and released an 87-page report finding the shooting justified. The fact that Harris’ inflammatory and divisive false portrayal has yet to be removed demonstrates her complete unfitness to lead our country.
- Instead of being duped by notorious “hate crimes conman” Jussie Smollett, Harris in 2019 dismissed the farcical accusation that white, pro-Trump MAGA supporters targeted Smollett because of his race, calling the fraud “a scam.” “Modern Lynching” Prosecutors have a healthy skepticism in their investigations. They are ordered to follow the evidence without fear or prejudice. Was Harris once the top police officer in California?
- During her congressional confirmation hearing, Harris, a sitting senator and presumed 2018 Democratic vice presidential nominee, asked Ronald Vitiello, the Trump administration’s nominee to head Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), whether he was aware of the “perception” that there are similarities between ICE and the violent domestic terrorist organization, the KKK.

Then, as vice president in 2021, Harris shamefully disparaged Customs and Border Protection agents on horseback who encountered Haitian migrants attempting to illegally cross the border, alluding to the unfounded, patently offensive and partisan accusation that the agents were “whipping” the migrants. Harris also appeared on “The View” to tell sympathetic viewers that the scene “evoked” images of slavery.
- While left-leaning politicians have gradually distanced themselves from their earlier unconditional support for Black Lives Matter and the “defund the police” movement, the internet is forever. In a 2020 radio interview in New York, Harris accused American cities of “militarizing the police” and expressed concern about the amount of money spent on police departments following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis that summer. During the 2020 campaign, Biden’s team worked hard to clean up her position, sensing an opportunity that the Trump team would surely exploit. But at the height of the 2020 protests and riots, polls revealed just how completely out of step Harris was with the African-American community: 81% said they wanted the same or more policing in their neighborhoods.
- How is the Harris campaign trying to portray Harris as a law-and-order prosecutor when she is promoting the Minnesota bail fund that helped secure the release of violent criminals during the 2020 George Floyd protests and destructive riots? Surprisingly, the Harris-backed fund seems to remain in “receive” donation mode. Harris’ support prompted donations that ultimately led to the release of violent criminal Sean Michael Tillman, who subsequently committed murder. The presidential candidate has yet to distance himself from this immoral endeavor. Protesters have never been arrested for peacefully and lawfully protesting. Harris knew that. In her 2020 campaign, Harris also proposed to abolish bail and “reform the criminal justice system.”
- Finally, she remains a supporter of the “sanctuary city” policy, an open act of defiance in which local governments refuse to cooperate with federal immigration authorities. The chaos along the southern border is an issue both sides eager to exploit during the election campaign, but Harris’s efforts as a “border czar” have failed, blatantly encouraging immigrants to cross the border illegally, knowing that she has a “friend” in the White House. Recent violent crimes by illegal immigrants have suddenly thrust her support for open borders into the spotlight. Coddling “border jumpers” (who then go on to commit violent crimes) is the very definition of self-destruction. But the temptation to expand her party’s political base is as irresistible as it is unavoidable. This pandering continues to have deadly consequences.

Finally, Kamala Harris’s patronage efforts have exacerbated our current national divisions. Despite seven years as San Francisco’s district attorney and six as California’s attorney general, we cannot discount her record. Her reckless comments have reinforced the false notion that police are infested with “white supremacists” who hunt down and kill young people of color for sport.
To understand how words matter, recall the motivations of recent assassins targeting police officers in New York City and Dallas. Despite statistical sleight of hand on crime data, our cities are now more dangerous. In 2024, a police officer will be shot every 22 hours. Meanwhile, the demonization of police and support for failed policies like bail reform, sanctuary cities and budget cuts continue to destroy public order. Can we really trust Kamala Harris to keep us safe?
