‘The Underground Railroad’, Barry Jenkins’ Acclaimed Miniseries, Coming To Criterion Collection In June

Ah, June! At the beginning of summer, movie buffs spend their days and nights indoors in air-conditioning, ticking off their international movie viewing lists.

Still a few months away, The Criterion Collection We’ve just dropped a list of movie titles that will be added to our collection all summer long, including masterpieces from David Lynch, Lana & Lily Wachowski, Terry Gilliam, and more.

David Lynch’s 1986 neo-noir re-released in 4K transfer blue velvet This violent mystery thriller features early breakout performances from Kyle MacLachlan, Laura Dern, and Isabella Rossellini, and Dennis Hopper in his most exciting and disturbing role. Lynch was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Director for this film. The film begins with the discovery of a human ear in a field and develops into a story about the seedy underworld of a small town, a concern that Lynch returned to during his career. And time again. blue velvet is now available to stream on Tubi.

Barry Jenkins’ historical drama miniseries will also be released on June 25th. subway. Criterion’s inclusion of the television format in its library is unusual, and speaks volumes about Colson Whitehead’s extraordinary adaptation of the novel, which won the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize. subway is now available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.

The Wachowskis’ 1996 debut, boundThis pulpy and stylish noir thriller was praised at the time for its depiction of the lesbian relationship between the two main characters, played by Gina Gershon and Jennifer Tilly. The film set an exciting precedent for the Wachowskis’ long career in Hollywood. Now streaming on Pluto TV.

Also joining the collection is Terry Gilliam’s 1998 Hunter S. Thompson adaptation. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (June 4), Emilio Fernandez’s 1951 Mexican melodrama victim of sin (June 18th) Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s 1982 subversive adaptation of Jean Genet, Kereru (June 11).
