Struggles for Breece Hall in Miami Gardens
In Miami Gardens, Florida, Breece Hall has handled the ball 46 times over three games, yet he hasn’t scored a touchdown. Many anticipated a strong performance from him and Garrett Wilson as key offensive players for the Jets this season.
“At the end of the day, my focus is on supporting my teammates and coaches,” Hall shared. “I don’t feel the need to complain about touches. Everyone understands the situation. I’m just trying to positively influence the team.”
So far, Hall’s stats include 38 rushing attempts for 157 yards and eight receptions totaling 78 yards, with his longest being a 33-yard catch. Expectations were high for him to have a more significant impact this season, especially following the Jets’ previous attempt in 2024. Ironically, his average of 15.3 touches per game has dipped from last year’s 16.6 and 17.5 in 2023.
“What does that say?” Hall questioned. “We’re here to win. We don’t fuss over who gets more touches.”
In the opening week against the Steelers, Hall accumulated 145 yards from scrimmage, yet he hasn’t mirrored that performance in the last two weeks. “We’re just trying to ignite things,” he commented when discussing the running game’s difficulties. “You can’t effectively run when you’re down multiple scores. In our running back room, there’s an expectation that we keep working, regardless of how the game unfolds.”
One silver lining in the Jets’ rough start is punter Austin McNamara. In his first NFL season, he’s shown remarkable poise, averaging 44.5 net yards per punt, ranking fifth overall in the league.
Special Teams Coordinator Chris Banjo attributes McNamara’s success, in part, to Kevin O’Dare, a special teams coach instrumental in his development. “Attention to detail without regret,” Banjo noted. “I’ve kept reinforcing our daily standards with him. Coach O’Dare has been remarkable in shaping McNamara’s approach. He’s young and still learning, but he improves every day, and we’re pleased with his progress.”
The Jets are still seeking their first victory as they head into week four.
