The upcoming plans for Aaron Judge's recovery

MIAMI

Judge Aaron is spending his weekend on both coasts of Florida, gearing up for his return to the Yankees.

After dealing with some tension in his right elbow flexor, he participated in batting practice at Rondepot Park on Friday, marking his first activity since he was placed on the injured list.

The plan is for him to do it again on Saturday. Following that, he’ll head to the Yankees’ complex in Tampa on Sunday for a few days of live hitting sessions.

“Hopefully we’ll have him revitalized by Tuesday or Wednesday,” manager Aaron Boone mentioned prior to the Yankees’ 13-12 loss to the Marlins on Friday.

Tuesday is the earliest possibility for Judge’s activation from the injured list. However, he has not resumed throwing yet, so he’ll be sidelined for a bit longer.

It might take a week or so for Judge to fully recover from his throwing hiatus, which is expected to last 10-14 days.

Meanwhile, Giancarlo Stanton has been active in the outfield before Friday’s match, but his actual game participation remains uncertain due to ongoing issues with his elbow and past leg injuries that have lingered over the seasons.

Stanton ended Friday’s game with a 1-5 record, hitting a three-run homer but also managing two strikeouts.

In a move to strengthen their bullpen, the Yankees acquired three right-handed pitchers on Thursday. Previously, Tim Hill was the lone lefty in the bullpen for much of the season, but Brent Headrick has recently impressed after being called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

On Monday, Headrick managed to secure five outs (with three strikeouts) in a game while the Yankees worked to position him effectively to maintain his fastball speed.

“He’s efficient and fills the zone,” Boone said. “In his first outing, he got five outs in under 20 pitches, which was quite encouraging.”

On Friday, Headrick pitched six innings without allowing any runs before handing the ball to Jake Bird, David Bedner, and Kamilo Doval.

Mark Leiter Jr. is expected to participate in a live batting practice session on Thursday as he recovers from a stress fracture in his left fibula. There’s a chance he could be activated in time for next week’s series against the Rangers, potentially taking part in rehabilitation games that weekend.
