‘The View’ co-host Sunny Hostin slammed for likening Jan. 6 riot to the Holocaust and slavery

“The View” co-host Sunny Hostin was criticized Monday for comparing the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol to both the Holocaust and slavery.

On the fourth anniversary of the day President-elect Donald Trump's supporters stormed the Capitol to delay the certification of President Biden's victory in the 2020 presidential election, Hostin said, “There is a moral crisis in this country. I think we need to find clarity.”

Hostin, 56, lamented that she thinks some people have become less angry about the incident over time.

Hostin likened the riot at the Capitol to the Nazi campaign to exterminate Jews and slavery in America. ABC

“I just remember after January 6th, people like Mitch McConnell were putting the responsibility for January 6th squarely on Donald Trump's shoulders,” she said. “And you started to see people going backwards and losing their moral center.”

“I think Condoleezza Rice said on this show that we need to move on from January 6th. I said, 'No, don't move on. January 6th was an atrocity. I did.” It was one of the worst moments in American history,” Hostin declared.

A former federal prosecutor brazenly compared the riot to the Nazi extermination campaign and the judiciary's treatment of enslaved people as personal property.

“And when we think about the worst moments in American history, we must never forget things that happened like World War II, like the Holocaust and chattel slavery. Because , because if we forget and erase it, the past becomes prologue,'' Hostin argued.

The comparison between “The View” co-hosts drew strong backlash.

“Already today I have heard some people in other venues say some very random and mean things, comparing January 6th to the Holocaust, slavery and World War II. .” CNN political commentator Scott Jennings said: The network was broadcasting the certification of Trump's election victory in 2024.

“I think we need to sort out our emotions here and control ourselves accordingly, and try not to go off the deep end,” Jennings continued. “It wasn't a good day. We cannot condone political violence, but we are also judged by how we view political violence in the context of the rest of American and world history.”

“People should take our feelings seriously and try not to go out too much on the ski slopes today, minimize other world events and compare them to January 6th. I think we should,” he added.

Several social media users called on ABC to fire Hostin for his outrageous comments.

“Sunny Hostin needs to be fired immediately. This is too far. Even on The View,” Paul Cipla wrote of X.

“November 5, 2024, people rejected her grotesque comparisons,” another X user wrote, referring to President Trump's landslide victory over Vice President Kamala Harris, who frequently sparked violence during the campaign did.
