Theo Von Mocked After Popular Clip Shows He Mistook the CIA for Talent Agency CAA

Theo Von’s Podcast Moment Goes Viral for All the Wrong Reasons

This week, comedian and podcaster Theo Von unintentionally became the center of online ridicule after a clip from his recent chat on Joe Rogan’s podcast went viral. The moment, which drew amusing comparisons to scenes from the movie Stopping Development, struck a nerve with many viewers.

During their conversation about conspiracy theories, Theo shared a story that he claimed proved a link between Hollywood and U.S. intelligence agencies. He said a construction worker informed him that a high-rise being built near Hollywood would host both a major talent agency and the CIA—a suggestion he took as evidence of collusion.

However, critics quickly pointed out a glaring issue: the worker likely referred to CAA, or Creative Artists Agency, rather than the CIA. This misstep didn’t go unnoticed on social media.

Joe Rogan had kicked off the discussion by expressing his frustration with educated individuals who refuse to acknowledge that conspiracies exist and are often quite common. He stated, “These things happen frequently, especially in powerful positions, like running an intelligence agency, where people often evade accountability,” adding, “Although many of their actions are ethically wrong, they remain legal.”

Theo countered with, “But is it really? Why do we feel like our FBI and CIA are against us? It seems they’re just deceiving us.” After further back and forth about intelligence activities, he launched into his now-infamous anecdote.

As he recounted walking through Century City Mall, Rogan dubbed it a “strange mixture.” Nevertheless, Theo continued to argue that Hollywood and intelligence agencies blend fact and fiction in ways that don’t escape public notice.

Yet, the online reactions were far less philosophical and rather critical.

Yair Rosenberg from Atlantic chimed in, saying, “Theo Von is confusing CAA (Creative Artists Agency) with the CIA here. Perhaps it’s time to stop getting your news from charming intellectuals.” Podcaster Danny Gold added, “He’s mentioning CAA, the talent agency literally across the mall. Theo’s the perfect example of a conspiracy theorist—just completely clueless.”

And that was just the start of the backlash. Responses poured in from various users.

One user mused about whether it was the construction workers or Theo who mixed up CAA and CIA during the building project in Century City. Another quipped about the implications of such confusion, saying, “To think these two actually influenced the presidential election.”

In another tweet, a user clarified, “The ‘blue collar guy’ he mentions is undoubtedly talking about CAA, the agency that represents many in Hollywood, and oh yeah, it’s based in Century City.”

It seems Theo Von’s slip-up resonated with many, leading to a flood of memes and jokes across social media platforms.
