More than a year after Charlie Kirk was assassinated, some people continue to make light of his death, drawing criticism from BlazeTV host Sara Gonzales.
Gonzales described reactions to the killing as a “litmus test,” arguing that mocking the loss of a husband and father over his views on taxes and immigration showed a lack of regard for human life.
She said the ridicule had grown more brazen. At a Turning Point USA “Pick Up the Mic” event at the University of Texas at San Antonio, a young woman introduced herself as “Pamper Baby” and told speaker Christian Collins that she was an immigrant and had taken Plan B that morning.
She then read a poem she had written about the anniversary of Kirk’s death, including a line referring to “a shot to the neck.” She ended by promoting an event called “Squirt for Kirk,” saying vaccines would be included. She also told Collins he was “brave” to attend without a neck brace.
After a video of the exchange spread online, social media users identified the woman and her mother as being from Rio de Janeiro and said they had not lived in the United States for long. The mother has reportedly described herself and her daughters as “citizens of the world.”
Gonzales questioned whether people who immigrate to the United States should be allowed to stay if they mock the deaths of Americans. She also raised the possibility of denaturalization, while acknowledging that the family’s citizenship status was unclear.
“Why should we not kick that person out of our country?” she asked, adding that she believed the family could return to one of the other countries where they had lived. Gonzales said the United States did not need immigrants who incite violence.
