‘There Is Not Enough MAGA for Trump to Win’

Democratic strategist James Carville said Monday on MSNBC’s “The Beat” that former President Donald Trump isn’t “MAGA enough” to win the presidential election in November.

“There are no Republicans. It’s the Trump cult,” Carville said. “The Republican Party I knew, no, the Republican Party everyone knew, even Rob Portman, Bob Corker, Dick Cheney, doesn’t exist anymore. Mike Johnson is literally part of the cult. The bad news is you can’t change MAGA’s mind. The good news is there aren’t enough MAGA for Trump to win. Trump needs to get traditional Republicans on his side who generally vote Republican. If the president peels them off, say whatever you want to the MAGA people, they don’t care. They’re not moving, but they’re not numerous or growing enough to win a general election in this country.”

He added, “Mike Johnson is not a Republican in any sense of the word. He is a MAGA theocracy and that’s it.”

Carville added, “They know they don’t have a political party anymore and they’ve fallen into a cult of personality. But 22 percent of Republican primary voters are voting for a candidate who dropped out. They’re uncomfortable with Trump. Tell these people they just have to do this once and in four years their numbers will be smaller.”
