There Is ‘Repeated Evidence’ of Non-Citizens Voting

Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) said there is “repeated evidence” that non-citizens have voted. Breitbart News Dailydiscussed the Protecting American Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE Act).

“Let me just say this about the whole election situation,” Roy began, explaining, “We have repeated evidence that non-citizens, whether illegal or legal, are voting.”

“There’s studies that demonstrate it. There’s evidence that it may have helped Al Franken and his election in Minnesota. Objective studies show that Virginia rejected 1,500 registered voters last year alone. You can go through a long list. Oakland, San Francisco, the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C., New York City — we know that local governments register voters for state and local elections, but they don’t try very hard to not vote in federal elections,” he said. “Federal law is [and] States’ ability to verify and secure citizenship is limited, to the point that Arizona must operate two systems, one for state local elections and one for federal elections.”

“They’re literally divided because they want to secure their citizenship in state and local elections, but they’re not allowed to do that in federal elections. So we need to solve this problem,” he said.

Additionally, Roy said, the Motor Voter Registration Act, passed in the 1990s, has allowed courts to interpret federal law to limit states’ ability to “determine and collect information necessary to determine and verify citizenship.”

Roy said the U.S. has essentially created a system that requires federal agencies to distribute forms to encourage individuals to register to vote, then ask them to verify if they’re a citizen, and while federal law requires you to be a citizen to vote in federal elections, there’s nothing that actually verifies citizenship, he said.

The SAVE Act would address these issues, fix what Roy described as a “flaw,” and require proof of citizenship for everyone who applies to register to vote in every state.

“But in doing so, it fixes that glitch. And it does address some of the complications that have been made as this bill passes. For example, there are states like North Dakota that don’t have voter registration at all, which means voters don’t have to register to go to the polls. North Dakota has its own rules about what you have to show to vote. And North Dakota is a smaller state than California, Texas, New York, Florida, etc. But we’re trying to adapt and adjust to accommodate those circumstances. But overall, the purpose of this bill is very simple, exactly as you just described it,” Roy said. This is a bipartisan issue that has overwhelming support.

listen:

“There’s overwhelming bipartisan support that only citizens should vote. So I think this is an Achilles heel, so to speak, for the Democratic Party. In Washington, they just voted to end non-citizen registration in DC elections,” he said, explaining that in fact 52 Democrats voted in favor of this. But 143 Democrats voted against it.

“I think Republicans were unanimous in their support, so you get the gist of it,” he said, adding that Republicans tried to pass “a bill to make it clear that congressional seats and apportionment are based on national origin” but “Democrats were unanimous in their opposition.”

“This is where the political rifts lie. Biden is bringing 5 million people into our country, another 2 million have fled the country, and tens of thousands more are coming in every day, so this issue is incredibly important,” he added.
