‘There’s a Lot of Irrational Exuberance’ for Kamala Harris

David Axelrod, a former adviser to President Barack Obama, said on CNN’s “Newsroom Live” on Saturday that there was “irrational enthusiasm” on the Democratic side over Kamala Harris’ candidacy.

“His message for the last two years has been built around strength. He’s strong. He’s someone who can handle these issues. And now when it comes to the debate, he has an opponent who is younger and more agile and he doesn’t want to debate. I’m not sure that that looks good on him. I think at the end of the day he feels he has to debate,” Axelrod said.

“I think his campaign has legitimate concerns that this could fail. They may lose the campaign, but it’s a campaign and they can lose. They didn’t feel that when they left the Milwaukee convention.”

He added, “There’s an irrational enthusiasm on the Democratic side right now because there was a period of despair about what would happen in November. But now people feel they have a chance. But at this point it’s pretty certain that Trump will lose. Trump is ahead, he’s ahead in most of the battleground states. It’s a close race and either candidate could win.”

“It’s a very close race, but Trump has the advantage right now and all Democrats should take that in stride,” Axelrod concluded.
