Brett Goldstein revealed he ran into an unexpected situation on the first day of filming “Shrinking” alongside Jason Segel.
The “Ted Lasso” star spoke candidly about the gross encounter on the Nov. 14 episode of “Late Night with Seth Meyers.” He said he was on-set running scenes with Segel but the nature of their exchange was so dramatic and heated that the other actor wound up spitting all over him.
“I was caked!” Goldstein said.
The 44-year-old actor recalled the moment when he realized things were not going to run quite as expected.
He said he “didn’t know how Jason was gonna be” when they began shooting the scene, as it was the very first time he had gotten in front of the camera with Segel. He had no idea what to expect, but as he went through the script the intensity of the scene built up, and the spitting predicament was undeniable.

“On the very first day, when I had my first scene with Jason Segel — if you haven’t seen it, he is very traumatized by an act that I have committed and I’ve come to apologize to him,” Goldstein explained.
“And he shouts, shouts, basically tells me to fuck off, a lot,” he recalled.
“We did the scene and he shouts, shouts, shouts and it was really dramatic, but he spat so much on me that between takes … I was staying in [character] but the continuity people were like, this is like [too much] spit. We need to fix this!” the actor continued.
Meyers laughed at the thought of the awkward situation and joked that they had a “spit team” in place to take care of the mess.
