Former President Donald Trump waved to migrants, possibly waiting to cross the border, during a visit to Eagle Pass, Texas, this week.
Footage of President Trump’s visit to Eagle Pass shows the Republican front-runner standing near a wire fence, waving his hands and pumping his fists. Someone in the distance started yelling “Trump!” Trump! ”
“They’re waving at you,” one person tells Trump.
“They like Trump. Can you believe it?” the former president jokingly patted Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) on the back, adding, “They like your governor.”

President Trump visited Eagle Pass this week and spoke about his assessment of the Biden border crisis. This is an important issue that many Republicans expected the president to emphasize leading up to the election.
President Trump spoke of the worst consequences of President Biden’s porous borders, citing the recent murder of Augusta University nursing student Laken Riley as an example. Jose Antonio Ibarra, 26, an illegal immigrant from Venezuela, was arrested and charged with kidnapping and murder. Notably, President Trump spoke with Riley’s parents and described them as “incredible” people.

President Trump’s remarks included details about his plan to regain control of the border, lamenting the intentional destruction of the most secure border in history. The destruction occurred on January 21, 2021, when President Joe Biden canceled the previous president’s strict and successful border policies. President Trump’s statement set out his own assessment of the border: “Three years ago, our nation’s borders were the most secure they’ve ever been. People didn’t come because they knew they couldn’t get in. We wanted free education, free health care, free everything. I didn’t make any promises.”
President Trump went on to tout progress toward securing the border under his administration, saying, “We ended catch-and-release and built 571 miles of border wall, far more than we promised to build.” . President Trump added, “We bought 200 more miles of (wall material) and they sold most of it for 5 cents on the dollar.”
President Trump went on to talk about expulsion policies canceled under President Biden’s watch, including “Remain in Mexico,” which would speed up refugee status determinations while migrants wait in Central American Northern Triangle countries.
