Four of his relatives were assaulted before he assaulted police officers who responded to his residence in Queens.

NYPD Chief Jeffrey Madeley said at a media conference that police responded to a call from a home in Far Rockaway around 5 a.m. Sunday morning.

“The young female caller said her cousin was killing her family,” Madry said.

When police arrived, they saw 38-year-old Courtney Gordon leave the home with her belongings. Gordon allegedly stabbed two police officers with a knife and then shot them to death.

Police found an 11-year-old girl lying outside her home. She was taken to Long Island Medical Center Cohen, where she was pronounced dead.

The man is believed to have set fire to a sofa in the home, and police had to wait for the fire department to respond and extinguish the fire before searching the home.

Three people were found dead from stab wounds inside. They are reported to be a 12-year-old boy, a 44-year-old woman, and a 30-year-old man. Another victim, identified as a 61-year-old woman, was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital in critical condition.

Investigators were able to recover a knife outside the home.

The two injured officers were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries but were later released.

Mr Madeley praised the two officers.

“Think about it: They spent the whole night, probably many nights like this, walking into utter fear and trying to take their lives. And who killed an innocent family when they tried to kill them?” Madley said.

Officials said Gordon had previously been arrested for strangulation in a domestic violence incident.

Gordon had been suffering from a mental breakdown for several months prior to the incident and had been kicked out of a relative’s home due to his irrational behavior. He reportedly refused medical treatment.
