Snoop Dogg Speaks Out on Same-Sex Couples in Kids’ Movies
Rapper Snoop Dogg recently expressed doubts about the inclusion of same-sex couples in children’s films. He shared an experience he had when he took his grandson to see Pixar’s “Lightyear,” a 2022 release featuring a lesbian couple who kiss and raise a child together.
This conversation took place during his appearance on Sarah Fontenot’s podcast, “It’s Giving.” During the movie, Snoop recounted, his grandson asked him a rather awkward question: how the two women could have a baby. This moment left him feeling a bit unsettled.
“Why my grandson in the middle of the movie like, ‘Papa Snoop, how she have a baby with a woman? She a woman.’ Oh s***, I didn’t come in for this s***. I just came to watch the g****** movie. Hey man, watch the movie,” Snoop shared.
He continued, recalling his grandson’s confusion: “They just said she and she had a baby. They both women. How does she have a baby?” Snoop admitted that it made him apprehensive about going to the cinema, feeling unprepared for such questions. “It threw me for a loop. What part of the movie was this? These are kids. They’re going to ask questions. I don’t have an answer,” he added. “I was just there to go sleep and watch the movie. That s*** woke me up.”
“What you see is what you see, and they’re putting it everywhere.”
The film “Lightyear,” a spinoff of Pixar’s “Toy Story” series, indeed features the same-sex couple. Interestingly, reports indicate that the scene with the kiss was initially removed during production but restored after some internal dissent at Pixar.
Chris Evans, the lead voice actor, previously defended the film’s LGBTQ representation against critics, remarking, “The real truth is those people are idiots.” He noted that fear and resistance to change would eventually fade away, emphasizing the importance of embracing progress that reflects human growth.
