Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Alabama, told Newsmax TV’s “National Report” on Tuesday that former President Donald Trump’s conviction in a New York business records trial was “a war on our constitutional rights.”
Asked about a letter sent by eight Senate Republicans vowing to oppose major legislation and Biden’s nominees following his conviction, Tuberville said, “In my view, they are not taking this issue as seriously as we should. The American people need to wake up. This is war. This is a war against our constitutional rights, against our constitutional republic. This is not about Donald Trump, this is about the people of this country. I no longer call us Republicans or Democrats. You can either leave this great country as it has been for the past 248 years, or you can oppose it and change it to how you want it to be.”
“Even my Republican colleagues are saying we can’t go on like this, and we’re trying to convince them. We have to stop this train from going off the tracks or we’re going to lose next November,” he said. “It’s not over yet. Democrats are not over this yet. They’re going to continue to attack this every day.”
“There’s a lot of bad things going on in this country right now. They’re worried about Republicans taking back the country that we love. They’d better worry about that, because if they continue down this path of nonsense, we’re going to get November 5th back,” Tuberville added.
