I've been waiting for such a winter for such a weekend for a long time. It has been decades since the fate of the Knicks and St. John's in this sync, as New York basketball had this kind of tandem.
At least we need to go back to 1999 and come up with something similar. The Knicks went all the way to the NBA Finals after losing to Tim Duncan's Spurs. Johnny went all the way to the Elite 8 before dropping a 77-74 Heartbreaker in the South Region finals to the Scooney Pen and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
However, 1999 was their first lockout season in the NBA, and the Knicks didn't start playing until February, which was different. St. John's owned the city's basketball spotlight all year round.
Until April 22nd, 33 days after St. John's season ended, Dave Cecquett invited Ernie Grunfeld to famously for dinner at the Gregory's in the White Plains. The man had a steak for dinner, so Checkett gave Granfeld a pink slip for dessert with his coffee. The Knicks began their miracle two weeks later.
