Lottery Excitement at Yonkers Gas Station
It’s turned into quite the event.
Workers at a Yonkers gas station celebrated after selling three $1 million Powerball tickets. Although it’s technically possible for such a thing to happen in one day, state lottery officials noted it’s pretty uncommon.
On Monday, an unexpected surge of activity filled V&C Taneja, a convenience store attached to a BP gas station on Knepperhan Road. Locals flocked there, hoping to catch a little of that winning luck.
“We all know this place is lucky,” said Shahid Shah, the store manager, on Thursday. “I’ve never seen anything like this. People have been coming in since morning to buy their Powerball tickets.” He mentioned that everyone keeps asking, “Who won? Who’s the lucky one?”
Lee Park from the New York State Gaming Commission indicated the identities of the winners remain unknown, as they haven’t stepped forward yet.
“It’s rare to have multiple significant winners at a single location, but this kind of luck isn’t unheard of in New York,” Park explained.
Shah speculated that all three tickets might have been bought by the same person playing their lucky numbers multiple times.
Interestingly, he recalled another instance of a winner who scored both the first and second prizes on the same CASH4LIFE ticket back in 2023.
However, it’s still unclear if any store has ever sold three winning $1 million tickets at once, given the long odds of winning, which stand at about 1 in 11,688,053.52. Lottery officials didn’t provide any examples of this happening before.
Customers were ecstatic over the store’s incredible luck.
Edgar Gonzalez, a 56-year-old restaurant employee who drove from Throgs Neck in the Bronx, shared, “My wife said I should try my luck. So here I am.” Others had made similar journeys, drawn by the excitement.
“I saw it on TV,” said 35-year-old Wilton Soto, a grocery store employee. “Wait, this is the place? I guess I’m lucky!”
Xavier Santana, also 35 and a car rental company owner, chimed in with enthusiasm as well. He jokingly asked the clerk, “Did this store sell a $3 million winner on Monday?”
As for the three winners, they have until October 19, 2026, to claim their prizes. The Powerball jackpot, which also wasn’t won in the latest drawing, currently sits at $344 million.
