(Actually, jumping on something you see on TikTok doesn't mean you're super trendy right now, but that's another story.)

This fad is all part of modern day “keeping up with the Joneses” and is not only expensive but also not creative or original. I wish I could go back to my middle school self and say I didn't need to match my slap bracelet. I would tell my teenage self that you don't need Dr. Martens to look cool.

As trends come and go, and unfortunately, terrible social media apps are on the rise, kids (and let's be honest, adults too) are finding more ways to stay cool and still fall short of trying to fit in. We have to fight.

I gave up on having trendy shoes, clothes, accessories, and popular friends a long time ago. Yes, I discovered that the high school crowd still exists now that they're adults, and they all have a Stanley Cup. I also think it's parents who let their kids bully other kids who don't have name-brand Stanley Tumblers, like what happened to a 9-year-old girl in Ohio. Parents, please try harder.

I want my daughters to carve their own paths in life, filled with adventure, unique experiences, and passion, rather than chasing what seems cool and trendy at the moment. It all goes away and there are zero moments of character or faith building.
Like most parents, I want to find a balance between giving my children what they need and what they really want within reason. Expensive stainless steel cups exceed that limit. Not only because of the cost, but also because I have a strong rebellious spirit.
