This new app for new mothers is a breakthrough.

Motherhood starts the moment a pregnancy test shows positive. Alongside joy often comes a wave of anxiety. It’s fascinating how something as small as two lines on paper can plunge a woman into a whirlwind of questions, worries, hopes, and fears—an exhilarating yet daunting journey that changes her life forever.

Similar to the transformative experience of giving birth, the anxiety that arises upon discovering a new life is something that can persist as long as a woman’s heart beats.

Many mothers are grappling with the weight of their anxieties more than ever.

While motherhood is a lengthy voyage and “maternal instinct” is undeniably profound, many mothers find themselves in need of direction.

This is especially true in the early stages—from pregnancy through childbirth and the postpartum period.

Historically, women relied on the knowledge of others in their communities to learn about pregnancy, childbirth, and newborn care. That sharing of wisdom was simple yet often risky due to a lack of medical understanding. Nowadays, things have improved significantly—modern medical advancements have made childbirth safer, but many mothers still feel adrift.

We’re turning to other women for advice, but it’s a bit overwhelming; much of it comes from platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Reddit, which can be a mixed bag. The information from healthcare providers can also differ widely, causing many women to feel confused, unable to speak up for themselves, and ill-prepared for what lies ahead.

A ray of hope for modern mothers

Fortunately, there’s a solution called “I Am Motherhood.”

Created by Vera McIntyre, this app serves as a comprehensive resource for mothers across the three critical phases: labor, birth, and postpartum.

I Am Motherhood offers a free downloadable app that not only helps mothers navigate a sea of information but also equips them with essential tools for a successful pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum experience.

The mission of nurses and mothers

Bella, a labor and postpartum nurse and mother of two, has gathered extensive knowledge and experience. “I Am Motherhood” represents her effort to share her insights with women who may feel lost as they take on their crucial new roles.

After years of guiding friends and assisting patients who seemed overwhelmed as they approached childbirth, Bella felt inspired to create a resource that could meet this need directly.

“The real motivation for I Am Motherhood came when I decided to leave my job after my daughter was born in 2024. Once I stepped away, I realized how much I missed it, and I started jotting down the advice I would give to friends and patients,” she shared.

What began as a simple Google Doc has since transformed into six—yes, six—books, all available for download and purchase through the app. Each book focuses on different stages of motherhood, such as the first through third trimesters, labor and delivery, the first month postpartum, and the rest of the postpartum year. These resources are tailored for anyone wanting a deeper understanding of the early stages of motherhood.

The app also offers quick insights about various topics, including nutrition, exercise, choosing a healthcare provider, birth planning, and more. Bella shares encouraging, practical advice drawn from her experiences and professional training as a mother.

Merging modern and holistic approaches

Many women struggle with balancing contemporary medical advice, holistic practices, and their own instincts. Bella believes that these elements can coexist harmoniously.

“As a mother with a holistic perspective and a nurse who values medical interventions, my philosophy shapes the content of my book and the app. I’m not suggesting giving birth in your backyard, but I’m also not advocating for every possible medical procedure,” she explained.

She emphasizes that her app and book provide evidence-based options, allowing women to shape their own experiences in motherhood.

But knowledge is only the beginning; “I Am Motherhood” also presents a collection of tools vital for expectant and new mothers.

All-in-one solutions

Any woman who has journeyed through this will tell you how tiring it can be to track everything. Before going into labor, you’ll have access to due date calculators, baby growth trackers, kick counters, and labor timers. After the baby arrives, tracking feeding, sleep, and diaper changes becomes crucial.

Typically, these tracking systems are separate, making it easy for important details to slip through the cracks. I remember, after my son was born, noted feeding times on whatever scrap of paper I had. Unfortunately, that scrap got thrown away, and when the nurse asked for my records, I couldn’t provide any. I had been a mother for just six hours, and yet I felt already like I’d failed.

The “I Am Motherhood” app consolidates all these functionalities in one place. The Baby Development Tracker helps expectant moms stay informed about their baby’s weekly growth. The app also offers symptom management tips tailored to each stage of pregnancy.

As the big day nears, features for tracking kicks and timing contractions are essential. After the baby arrives, the app assists in organizing feeding, sleep, and diaper habits. For contemporary mothers, “I Am Motherhood” simplifies the often-overwhelming process of managing everything alone.

Empowerment through knowledge

In an age ripe with social media debates and a surplus of misinformation, many women’s paths to motherhood can be overshadowed by uncertainty and indecision.

That was me—I went to the hospital with only an overnight bag and a look of sheer terror, confronted by the flood of information and completely unsure of where to start. No birth plan, no specialized knowledge, and certainly no confidence to advocate for myself. I just hoped it would all work out.

While it did, I experienced numerous complications. Exploring the “I Am Motherhood” app made me reflect: I wished I had this resource when I began my journey!

“Knowledge is power,” Vera noted. “This app aims to give women the information they need to engage actively in their motherhood journey. It’s designed to help them personalize their experiences and embrace motherhood with confidence.”

In a world filled with noise, contradictory advice, and self-doubt, I Am Motherhood provides something genuinely useful. It offers thoughtful guidance that respects both medical knowledge and maternal intuition. Whether you’re newly pregnant or navigating the challenges of postpartum life, this app serves as a supportive partner, helping guide you from feeling overwhelmed to becoming empowered.

The “I Am Motherhood” app intends to educate and support, but it’s important to remember that it doesn’t replace professional medical advice. Always consult your healthcare provider for tailored guidance.
