Unwanted Birthday Surprise Leads to Arrest
Not giving anything to your ex on their birthday? That’s perfectly fine. There’s really no obligation to find a gift or even acknowledge the occasion. For many, this is understood. They don’t mistakenly think it’s a good idea to surprise an ex with something unexpected.
Yet, there’s always an exception, right? Take the case of Jacob Porter, a 43-year-old man from Florida. According to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, he made quite the peculiar attempt to wish his ex-girlfriend a “happy birthday”—and it didn’t go as planned.
On Saturday evening, Porter was arrested after he allegedly sent a nude photo of his ex to his boss. The ex-girlfriend discovered this while searching his phone, where she found the rather unexpected image. Along with the nude photo, a text message was sent to her boss that reportedly read, “Happy birthday to your h**.”
This certainly wasn’t what she had in mind for her birthday. But, as it turns out, there was a twist. Instead of the usual gifts, she ended up facilitating his transport to the Alachua County Jail, with bail set at a hefty $100,000.
Interestingly, this was not Porter’s first brush with the law. Reports indicate that he faced charges of sexual cyber harassment and digital voyeurism due to this incident. In fact, he has a troubling history, with nine felony convictions—three of which were violent—and twelve misdemeanors, one also violent. He’s spent time in state prison before and had a DUI arrest just a few months back.
Some people might argue that such a history makes him less than ideal relationship material. But then again, who am I to judge what attracts people to one another?
