STOEGER STR-9 Battle SX at Scottsdale Gun Club

On May 15, 2025, I spotted the STOEGER STR-9 Battle SX at a police event hosted by the Scottsdale Gun Club. It was positioned between more expensive offerings from well-known brands, including a noted German manufacturer. Yet, something about this pistol caught my eye — the twisted barrel, the tactile feedback from the serrations, and the comfortable grip all grabbed my attention.

We snapped a photo of the STR-9 Battle SX in the indoor section of the club. I was pleasantly surprised by the tactile response of the trigger, which delivered an unexpected crunch that felt particularly satisfying. During our time with the gun, the 20+1 magazine performed seamlessly, and soon enough, we had a nice hole in the paper target with just the second magazine.

Curious to explore its capabilities, we added a Trijicon SRO to the optical cut on the slide, and honestly, things only got better from there. It’s worth noting that with a suggested retail price of $699, it felt and performed like a firearm worth over $1,000.

The STR-9 Combat SX comes with a visually adjustable fiber optic sight, benevolent slide release lever for both right and left-handed shooters, an extra backstrap, and two 20-round magazines, along with an additional 17-round magazine.

During the police demonstrations, amidst various pistols typically linked with law enforcement, the STR-9 Combat SX certainly distinguished itself.

By the time you’ve fired around 400 to 500 rounds through the STR-9 Combat SX, you’ll notice its excellent ergonomics and impressive trigger performance. The accuracy is commendable, and the unique twisted barrel, along with its optical features and rapid targeting capabilities, showcases a tactical design that goes deeper than mere aesthetics.
