‘This will take time to ramp up’

Tesla's robotaxis will have two front seats and butterfly wing doors, and CEO Elon Musk is expected to discuss bringing fully autonomous driver assistance software to semi-heavy vehicles. Bloomberg News reported Wednesday.

The billionaire is expected to make the announcement when the electric car maker unveils its robotaxi at a highly anticipated event on Thursday, the report said, citing people familiar with the matter.

However, the deployment schedule for the vehicle, called CyberCab, is not yet clear.

Tesla did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment.

Industry watchers and investors expect the company to announce details during the event about the vehicle's launch schedule and how it plans to drive customers to the potential ride-hailing app.

Ken Mahoney, CEO of Tesla investment firm Mahoney Asset Management, said: “We need to hear more about the production schedule and maybe when it will come online…6 to 6 to make sure we ramp up production.'' I think it will take about a month to a year.” .
