Thomas Matthew Crooks ID’d as gunman who shot Trump during Pa. rally

The gunman who attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump on Saturday has been identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, sources told The Washington Post.

Crooks, from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, fired shots at an outdoor rally in the Pittsburgh suburb of Butler, one of which narrowly missed Trump in the ear.

Sources said Crooks was hiding on the roof of a manufacturing plant more than 130 yards from the stage at the Butler Farm Show.

He was killed by a Secret Service sniper, whose AR-type rifle was later recovered.

Bethel Park is a village 40 miles south of where the Butler meeting took place.

It’s unclear why Crooks is seeking the Republican presidential nomination.
