For Generation X, a group born between 1965 and 1980, it should be in the age when members are either heading towards their peak careers or just beginning to engage in those careers. However, a recent trio of stories shows red flags dotting the landscape of this demographic.

Worse, this generation, withstanding the recession of the early 90s, the dot com bust, the Great Recession of 2008-2009 and the pandemic, saw the struggle in the workplace amid massive layoffs and automated work. “I quit my full-time job in 2009 and found lots of freelance gigs. I had the energy to make a fuss,” says the 50-year-old Maryland marketing pro. “I’m not always like that. That’s how I feel a little more foreshadowed by this recession.”
