Three Accused of Stealing $20K Worth of Baby Formula in Indiana

Three people have been charged with stealing $20,000 worth of baby formula in Indiana.

The Booneville Police Department says two adults and a juvenile from Dallas, Texas, including Edgar Ramirez and Nora Zarate, have been taken into custody in connection with the theft, 14 News report.

On Thursday, officers were called to a Walmart in Booneville for a report of a theft. Employees told officers the suspects stole the baby formula and left the parking lot, the report said.

Police were able to stop the vehicle near SR 261 and Eskew Road and found a large amount of baby formula inside the vehicle.

Police said a total of 576 containers of stolen baby formula, valued at $22,495.41, were found inside the vehicle. Officers said the thefts uncovered a large-scale theft ring that included shoplifting from Walmarts in Jasper, Evansville and Newburgh.

“This is the first time we’ve tackled any type of infant formula theft,” Sergeant Seth Kyle told the publication. “Usually people are after high-end electronics, but sometimes thieves try to steal them.”

The investigation is ongoing, the report said. Booneville Police are asking other agencies or Walmart who become aware of the theft of formula to contact them at 812-897-6542.
