Attempted Home Invasion in Virginia Involves Halloween Masks
A recent incident involving a group wearing Halloween masks has left a family in Virginia shaken. A video captured three suspects attempting to break into a home in Alexandria, around 10 miles from Washington, D.C., at about 10 p.m. on a Tuesday night.
Sheila Whiteside was visiting her mother’s home when the frightening event unfolded. Her brother and his dog were also in the house at the time. Initially, Whiteside thought the masked individuals were just playing a Halloween prank. “I said, ‘Happy Halloween,'” she recalled, but it soon became clear this was no joke.
One masked suspect donned a clown mask, another dressed like Michael Myers from the “Halloween” films, and the third appeared as an evil nun. They shouted threatening phrases like “this is my worst nightmare,” much to the horror of the family. Despite Whiteside informing the group that she had called 911, they persisted with their intimidation.
Whiteside described the chaos: “They kept knocking on the door… it was getting harder.” One suspect warned, “Either you come out or we come in,” while another shouted for her to open the door. The family’s fear intensified when they heard the group discuss breaking in, leaving Whiteside feeling her heart drop.
She reflected on the incident, noting that it felt surreal but ultimately terrifying. “It’s not even a joke,” she said. “My heart dropped when I was told they were going to get on chairs and break down the door.” The alarming exchange, lasting about 10 minutes, left the family in a state of fear. “My dad had just passed away recently, so I was just glad to be there,” she told a local news outlet, but added that her mother is now afraid to be home alone.
Authorities believe that the suspects may have removed their masks and fled the area after the attempted invasion. Police are currently seeking additional surveillance footage that might shed light on the situation. Alexandria Police Chief Tarik McGuire stated that the suspects could face serious charges, including robbery and making threats against the family.
McGuire stressed the gravity of the situation, noting that the suspects made alarming threats, saying: “If you don’t come out, we’re going to come in,” and even threatening to kill the family members. He emphasized that forcing entry into a residence constitutes burglary under Virginia law and advised the community to remain vigilant, especially around Halloween when such incidents can escalate rapidly.
Parents were reminded to be aware of their children’s activities and the decisions they make, warning that they should not unwittingly involve police in non-criminal matters. It’s a reminder for everyone to stay alert and to understand their rights when it comes to personal safety on their property.
