Two Arrested in Murder of Young Singer
Authorities have detained two individuals in connection with the murder of a rising singer, while another suspect remains on the run.
Maria de la Rosa, who was popularly known as “DELAROSA,” was in a parked vehicle with friends in Northridge early Saturday when suspects approached and began shooting. The 22-year-old was quickly taken to a nearby hospital but sadly passed away. Additionally, two others in the car sustained serious injuries.
On Wednesday, prosecutors announced that three men received life sentences for their involvement in this shocking crime.
Residents of Northridge, Francisco Otilio Gaitan, 27, Benny Licongomez, 27, and Eduardo Lopez, 21, confronted Delarosa’s group at about 1:25 a.m., allegedly demanding cash before opening fire, according to police reports.
The suspects were reportedly wearing dark gray hoodies, and a 9mm bullet was discovered at the scene of the shooting.
Gaitan was apprehended on the same day of the crime, with bail set at $2.18 million. Licongomez was captured the following day and released after posting $2.28 million bail. A warrant for Lopez’s arrest is currently active.
Each of the suspects faces a felony charge of murder along with two counts of attempted second-degree robbery.
In a statement, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hockman condemned the incident, describing it as a “callous, targeted attack” that resulted in not only the loss of a promising artist but also created lasting trauma for her loved ones and the survivors. He emphasized his office’s commitment to ensuring justice for those responsible for this tragic event.
