Three individuals have been taken into custody on suspicion of supplying drugs to seven students from Providence College who overdosed at an off-campus gathering, according to police.
As reported by WBZ-TV, officers arrived at a party on Liege Street in Providence, Rhode Island, last week and discovered four students unconscious in the front yard of a residence.
In total, seven attendees at the party experienced overdoses and were administered Narcan before being transported to the hospital. Fortunately, they were later reported to be awake and responsive.
Police then searched a residence on Hawkins Street, recovering around 20 grams of fentanyl, $1,700 in cash, along with two rifles and three handguns, one of which was identified as a “ghost gun.”
Those arrested include Angel Williams (33), Patrick Patterson (32), and Kimshely Simoneau (33).
Williams and Patterson face several drug and firearm-related charges, while Simoneau is charged with ghost gun possession.
Williams and Patterson are being held without bail, whereas Simoneau has been released after posting a $10,000 bail.
None of the accused are affiliated with the university.
“This investigation demonstrates our ongoing commitment to tackling the dangerous influx of fentanyl and illegal firearms in our communities,” stated Providence Police Col. Oscar Perez.
He added, “The combined efforts of the Drug and Organized Crime Bureau helped remove these dangerous drugs and weapons from the streets of Providence.”
The university has also stated it will conduct its own investigation.
A representative from the university expressed gratitude towards first responders at the scene as well as the university’s public safety officers for their life-saving interventions with the students.
